I have been trying to find new group games for youth on Wednesday nights. Most veteran youth workers have their 10-15 “go to” games and I find that I fall into a rut and get lazy by just using the tried and true games (which by the way, are wonderful games that should be played from time to time.)
So, I dusted off my old Youth Specialties Ideas: Games book. Yes, I actually took a book off of my shelf instead of turning to Google. I came across a one paragraph description for a game called Feetball. As I was reading, I thought that is would be a fun, simple game, but would probably only last about 15 minutes.
I had to stop the game at 50 minutes. The Central Youth Ministry Youth loved it. My cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much. as they played, it evolved (or devolved) with added penalties for hitting the ball out of play. By the end of the game, we were playing with three balls instead of just one.
So, line up some chairs, set goals at the end of each row, tell the kids/youth they can’t use their hands and watch the fun ensue!
So simple.
So easy.
So much fun.
So try it out with your youth or children’s group. I think that older elementary kids would love it, too. What are your favorite new games?
